2010 Land Rover LR4 5.0L V8 Oil Change

The Land Rover LR4 is the successor to the LR3. The  LR3 won more than 100 awards for its design when it debuted, and the new LR4 is even better. The new LR4  shares its platform, drive system, suspension, and powertrain with the more expensive Range Rover Sport, but the LR4  is generally a more practical, less expensive vehicle for all-weather, and off-road driving. Below we’ll show the process for changing the oil on the five liter V8 Land Rover LR4.

The first step is to have the work order written up.  This is to ensure that the customer knows what is going to be done to their LR4 and that the technicians will have the proper information for the oil and oil  filter.

Lifting the hood gives us access to the plastic cover over the center of the engine. It is connected in the back with two rubber grommets which act like hinges. Just tug forwardly slightly to remove. The Oil filter is on the left side of the engine under the removed cover with a light grey housing, and the oil reservoir is on the right side of the engine under the removed cover.  It has a black cap with yellow lettering on it.

Here we are suctioning the old oil out of the engine and crank case into an environmentally safe collection tank. This is a cleaner and easier method than the traditional drain plug in the crank case.

Your Land Rover LR4 will have the oil type printed on the oil cap – it will likely be 5W-20, 5W-30, 5W-40, 10W-30 or 10W-40. If it isn’t printed on the oil cap, check your owners manual for the exact type before adding new oil.  The filter is a paper cartridge type filter and is replaced during the oil change.
