1973 Land Rover Series Swivel Ball Replacement
Whats not to love about the early model Land Rover. Built for the rugged back country terrain, simple design, built to last. There no denying why these older vehicles are still on the road today. With age comes respect and we love our older Rovers. Mechanical repairs are eminent when you own one of these beauties and we are there to help when the time comes. From wiring repairs, oil changes, or replacing those dreaded rusted swivel balls we do it all. Stop by and take a look. You might be surprised at the treasures we may be working on today in our shop.
The swivel balls can affect your steering and even your braking. There are many pieces to the swivel ball assembly and if the seals fail, the assembly can leak oil. The swivel balls themselves then become rusted and and pitted and need to be replaced.
When replacing the swivel balls it is a good idea to check all the bearings and seals as well. If one has gone bad and you put it all back together it could just end up in another service bill and an even more expensive repair later on. It is also a good idea to check and replace swivel balls at the same time.
The mating faces of the swivel ball need to be clean, fitted with new main seals, the rubber swivel gaiter and a new gasket coated in sealant before refitting the assembly to the axle.
Once replaced the swivel balls will ensure proper alignment, steering and braking in the front end of your 1973 Land Rover.
